Do it Yourself Backyard Fence Installation

Do it yourself backyard fence installation

Economy is bad these days. Many people try to save money by getting involved in do-it-yourself projects, especially around the house. One project that is tempting to undertake is putting up a fence in your backyard. The material is readily available and the blueprint is not hard to come up with.

A quick trip to your local hardware store like Home Depot or Lowe's can get you everything you need to start the project. The project itself seems pretty easy to do. You know exactly what needs to be done and what type of fencing material is required.

So finally the Saturday that you've been waiting for has arrived. You pick up the paper with the drawings and the list of required material, heading on to the local hardware store. You load up your truck with posts, yards of pre-cut fences, nails and screws. You head back to your property and unload your truck. Half an hour later you have your post locations marked on the ground and ready to start digging. You've predicted to take a few minutes, at most, to dig each hole.As you are digging you come across some tough roots from the surrounding trees that are putting up a tough fight. You consider that as an unusual situation and a bad choice of location to dig. You stop get your saw and start cutting the roots. Three or four minutes later you start digging again. Before you know it, you notice you can't dig any further. There is a big rock in the way. Grudgingly, using a pick you clear around the rock and finally with your shovel you lift the rock out of the hole. By this time you are tired and you've spent three times more than you thought it would take to dig that hole. You measure the depth of the whole and continue digging. After going through a few more episodes of cutting roots and taking rocks out of the hole you're finally satisfied with the depth of the whole. At this time you place the post inside the hole and mark the desired length on the post. You take the post out and you cut it to the length. You feel good about your accomplishment but you start thinking maybe you underestimated the project. You go on to start digging the second hole thinking you'll make up the time on this one. Again after a minute or so digging you come across the dreaded roots from the nearby trees. By now you know the routine, having saw in hand and the pick & shovel close by, you start sawing the tree roots. Shortly after that, as you expected, the pick and shovel come handy in clearing and lifting the big rock that you encounter out of the hole. You continue the process of digging, cutting the roots, clearing around the rock you encounter and taking them out of the hole until you get to the desired depth for the whole. You get the post, set it in the hole, measure the desired length and mark it on the post. Now, you are exhausted, you look at the number of the holes that need to be dug and seriously think you need help. Between the digging, cutting the roots, clearing and lifting the rocks out of the holes you manage to dig a total off five holes in close to two hours.
While you're having lunch you break the news to your wife that you're going to ask Joe, your buddy, to come over and help you finish the project. When your wife reminds you of the last project that Joe helped you to finish, how long it took and how it looked after it was finished you tell your wife what she has been telling you all along and you have been refusing to do, that is, the possibility of hiring a professional fence installer.
You say, “well, we can hire a reputable fence installer from the remodeling flyer that we get every week ". She says "yes I think you should do that instead of calling Joe. Besides I never liked Joe anyway, he is weird". While looking for the flyer, knowing deep down that Joe is weird, you complain to her that she shouldn’t say that about Joe and there is nothing weird about Joe.

You might think this is just a story. I assure you this really happened. I even know the person that this happened to. Okay, I admit it, it happened to me. I consider myself a handyman. I have tackled many projects in my life. But as I found out fencing is not one of those projects that I like to tackle. Too many variables and too much physical work is involved in fence installation.

I ended up calling a company called All Fencing And Repair to finish the job for me.
As it turned out even the five holes that I dug were not any help to them. The dug new holes according to their calculations based on what would support the fence better and how it would look at the end.

I returned what I had bought and chose new fencing material to be supplied by All Fencing And Repair. Vito and his crew did the whole job in one day and they gave me one full year warranty on the job. These guys knew what they were doing. Looking at how they worked you would know they had faced every obstacle possible before. Fixing to underground PVC pipes and cut electrical cables were part of the job for them.

I chose white aluminum fence with latch and lock for the gates. But I had a variety of the choices such as wood, iron and PVC. I’ve recommended them to all my friends and they have already installed fences for two of them.

I also learned a few things along the way.
Don’t cut the post before having it set in concrete in the ground.
Get someone like Joe involved in anything you don’t want to do.
Most importantly, listen to your wife when she tells you to do something. She will never forget that she was right and you were wrong in not listening to her suggestion.

Aluminum Fences and Gates the Most Popular in South Florida

Select a strong, easy to maintain and beautiful fence for your backyard. There is a reason that aluminum gates and fences are popular in South Florida. Their popularity comes from the fact that they are corrosion resistance and have low weight. Specially in South Florida, corrosion resistant material are in demand. Humidity is the number one enemy of much material used in construction. Material exposed to outdoors elements are in fact subject to corrosion on a 24/7 basis. Aluminum is corrosion resistant. In fact you may argue aluminum is the perfect candidate for construction in South Florida. Just for this fact aluminum is heavily used in fencing backyards and parks in our beautiful but humid state. However, when it comes to strength, steel is the front runner for applications where strength plays a major role.

In order to remedy the steel’s corrosion prone characteristics, a Hot Dipped Galvanized undercoat and a baked on Powder Coat finish is applied to any steel gate or fence and the fence or gate will outlast an aluminum version of that gate or fence. But as you might have guessed another variable is entered in the decision-making and it is cost. Making the steel corrosion resistance adds a fair amount to the overall cost of the project and this additional cost can, in many projects, easily run in thousands of dollars.

We at All Fencing and Repair, a professional fence, pergola and gate installation and distribution company, offer both products to our clients. Our clients have a choice of material and are assured that every job that we undertake comes with our unconditional satisfaction guaranty. All Fencing and Repair, puts its name and reputation on every job regardless of the size of the job.

Boca Raton Aluminum Fences

An aluminum fence is the best when it comes to strength, beauty and durability. Aluminum fences can be custom designed to any ornamental style and powder coated with any color to give your fence the beauty and elegance it deserves. Aluminum fence is the king of fences, hands down.

Aluminum Fence Tips
When you plan to buy an aluminum fence, first try and study the landscape of your property. If you have an uneven ground, then you will want to buy a fence that is rackable, or else you will end up having a stepping fence. If the pickets on an aluminum fence panel are welded together and not screwed, then installing such a fence on an uneven ground will create a stepping effect from panel to panel. So for uneven ground, it is best to have pickets screwed to the rails and post so that they can be aligned and racked to give the fence line an even look.

The strength of the metal frame depends on the quality of the aluminum and it’s thickness. Most of the manufacturers follow some basic industry standard by grading their products into three:
* Residential
* Commercial
* Industrial
The residential being the thinnest and industrial being the toughest.

Rather your fencing project is for a residential, commercial or industrial area, aluminum fences and gates are the easiest and quickest to install. All Fencing and Repair aluminum fences are pre-assembled, post pre-punched and the gates are welded.

Looking for a Fence Contractor in South Florida?

What kind of fence will keep my pets confined but will not block my view?
Traditionally, a chain link fence or wood fence will do the trick, but chain link and wood fencing does not provide the beauty when compared to steel or aluminum fencing. If your pets are medium to large size, most of our steel and aluminum fencing will keep them confined to your yard.
How deep do fence posts need to be set into the ground?Standard depth is at least 24 inches, however, this depends on many factors, including the type of material used and the climate conditions in the area (prairie land (cracks when dry), high wind areas, etc.). Please consult your local fencing contractor to be certain of your needs for your area.

How long will my fence last? There are many factors that affect the life of a fence, including local climate, soil conditions and the materials used, to name a few. You can expect a properly installed fence to last many years, as long as it is appropriately maintained. If you're unsure, one of our friendly customer service representatives can help you decide which type of fence will serve your needs best.
What kind of guarantees can I expect from my fence contractor? We recommend that you discuss specific warranty concerns with your fence contractor prior to installation. Material warranties are usually provided by the manufacturer. Workmanship is guaranteed by the contractor. The term of a warranty will vary from product to product.

Are there standards that pertain to fence materials and products?Yes. The American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) develops and publishes standards for all types of fencing. A knowledgeable, well-trained fence contractor will be versed in ASTM standards for fence products and installation.

Chain Link Installation in South Florida Serving Broward, Miami and Palm Beach Counties

Chain Link Fence Installation Company in South Florida

View Chain Link Fences

When looking for chain link fence and gate installation companies in South Florida look for a company who is knowledgeable in the different materials and a fence company who will explain the difference in between the chain link fencing products. You might be surprised at all the options available.

Traditional chain link fences are pretty much the same - galvanized steel chain link fence and coated chain link fence with powdered zinc to protect it from the elements. Although these are common chain link fence styles, there are several variations available relating to gauge, diamond link size, color and galvanization.

Chain link for fences comes in many different gauges (thickness of the metal) for different uses. The lightest gauge for a chain link fence is generally 13, while you can get heavier gauges right up to 6 (the lower the number, the thicker the gauge). Most chain link fences clients use are between 9 to 12 gauge, including applications such as: tennis and basketball and courts chain link fencing, city parks and soccer field chain link fencing.

Chain Link Diamond size generally range between 1 3/8" and 2 3/8" but you can find them in larger and smaller sizes. If your chain link fence is acting as a barrier to keep small animals out (or in, in the case of pets) smaller mesh will be more effective.

If you are looking for a
Fence and Gate Company in South Florida, All Fencing and Repair’s fences and gates give you a product far above the market standard. Get HOA Approval Before Building Your Fence in Miami, Palm Beach or Broward County

All Fencing and Repair and Gate Installation Company had a customer in the Miami Dade County area that contracted us to build a chain link fence in his Miami property.  When he called he was unsure of what type of fence he wanted, so we sent one of our fence installers out to show him the different options he had. We discussed aluminum fence, PVC fence, chain linkwood fence, ornamental fence and combinations of these were discussed.

The customer decided on the galvanized chain link for the entire yard. We measured the yard for the fence, got the contract signed and the down payment required to secure the materials and set up the date for his fence installation. We scheduled to install the chain link fence two days later.

Next day the client called us to inform that his Homeowner Association would not allow installation of chain link fences in his property due to their regulations. Our client made an assumption. He looked at the neighbors who had chain link fence and thought he could install chain link fence too.  What he didn’t know is that those homeowners had been fined and they were in the process of searching for a new fence company to  remove their fences.

Luckily, we hadn't started the project, so nothing was cut to measure yet. Instead we installed a 4' wood picket fence, which the HOA says will be in compliance with their regulations.

Moral of the story: What your neighbors have done is not necessarily correct. Just because you neighbors did it, doesn't mean you can do it too. Also regulations change from time to time. It might be that at the time your neighbors installed the fence they were in compliance.

Before you call a fencing company in Miami, Palm Beach and Broward County to install your fence or gate, always get the approval of your HOA FIRST. Usually,  fence companies will help you in this process by supplying you what you need to submit and then the customer must get the approval of the HOA before starting the fence.

If you need more information on fence installation procedures and or you are looking for professional fence and gate installation in South Florida, All Fencing and Repair provides quality fence and gate products that are individually designed by fence craftsmen. All fencing manufacturing is offered under one roof and delivery and installation is handled by experienced fence and gate installation professionals. Cheap Fences in Miami: Eventually Cost The Homeowner More Money

QUICK STORY FROM A MIAMI CLIENT - Well, there are usually two ways that a homeowner or a neighbor ends up with a bad fence. They either tried to do it themselves, or they hired someone who is not specialized in doing the job right.  A recent customer in Miami called our fence company to have his fence rebuilt. The last person who worked on his fence was an unlicensed handyman who used to do work around his house. The homeowner reported that the handyman had great experience in installing fences as he had installed fences in his Miami neighborhood in the last few months. He also said that all the fence work allegedly done by the handyman in the neighborhood looked spectacular. So, he decided to have the handyman build his fence and save some money. He also thought he could not go wrong with the one year warranty he was been given. In all, the homeowner saved around $600 compared to a few other estimates from local Miami Fence Companies who specializes in Fence and Gate Installation and are licensed to do so.

To make a long story short, after one of our Florida storms, not a hurricane, not even a tropical storm the fence build by the handyman gives in and in the middle of the night. The homeowner told us that at some point he and his family had to run to the backyard to try secure whatever was left of the fence as they were concerned the flying debris would damage their neighbors’ properties.

Now, where is the handyman? Our client tried to call the handyman for several weeks to no avail. It is sad to know that our client did not have any physical location to go to, and even worst, how is he going to enforce a one year warranty that was given verbally? How is he going to get the handyman to fix his fence?

After realizing he could not get a hold of the handyman to fix his damaged fence, he knew he had to move on. He called several fence companies in Miami, including us. Unfortunately, we had to brake the news to him. The cost was now greater than, when we originally priced him. Most fence companies in Miami do not repair damages of great extent and we cannot warrant work of something that was built wrong to start with.We remember that he was very distraught to know that he had to rebuild the fence from scratch, but he now understood the value of hiring companies that specialize in fence. He was now looking at having to pay for a second fence as well as pay to have the first one removed. The fence he paid $2,500, is now costing him almost $4,500. He spent a few more weeks trying to locate the handyman, but again, with no address he could not even have the sheriff to serve the handyman with a lawsuit. Even if he could and the court awarded a judgment for the $4,500, the court system cannot make the handyman pay our client if he does not have the money. In all likelyhood he would never see a penny of that money. Unfortunately in this line of business we have seen this far too many times. Several customers hire us to build their second fence because the first one that was built was inferior.

Do it right the first time. All Fencing and Repair Specializes in residential, commercial and industrial fences and gates. Our fence and gate company has been providing services in Miami, Palm Beach and Broward Counties for over 12 years. All Fencing manufacturing is offered under one roof and delivery and installation is handled by experienced fence and gate installation professionals. All Fencing and Repair specializes in aluminum fences, chain link fences, wood fences, PVC fences, ornamental/iron fences and access controlled entry gates.

South Florida Fence and Gate Installation Tips

Tips for Installing Fences and Gates in South Florida.
1. Decide on the exact layout of your fence. We recommend that you stay six inches inside your property line. Stake the fence corners and string out the entire fence line. This will give you an idea of how your fence will look and alert you to any potential problems such as trees and shrubs that might be in the way.
2. Talk to your neighbors about your plans. Neighbors will generally be fine with your plans of installing a fence or gate and are most often willing to allow you to connect to their fence with advanced permission. A new fence can cause tension between neighbors when it comes as a surprise.
3. Prior to us installing your fence, we are required by law to call for an underground utility locate. All main utilities such as water, phone, gas and cable are located within 72 hours. They do not locate lines such as irrigation, pool equipment, or any additional lighting that you have installed as the homeowner. We cannot see what is underground and cannot be held responsible for what we might hit with an auger machine or posthole diggers. Please make sure to discuss any irrigation or other underground wiring with our representative to avoid any problems.
4. If you live in a subdivision with a Homeowners Association, please check their guidelines on fence installation. Many allow only certain types and heights of fences to be installed. We require a letter from the HOA giving permission for the fence installation.
5. All cities within Broward County, Miami Dade County and Palm Beach County require a permit to build a new fence. We will need a copy of your survey to obtain the permit. Also, if the project amount is $2,500 or higher, a Notice of Commencement must be filed at the courthouse prior to the city issuing the permit; this is Florida Law for all contractors. Please note that the NOC places a lien on your property for 30 days. A Notice of Termination of Notice of Commencement will be filed once the job has been completed and payment has been received.
